Many people still have this idea that steel roofing is just putting a sheet of metal over the building and it’s going to look poorly done, and then add to that, the fact that whenever it rains you are not going to even hear yourself talking. Steel roofing has certainly evolved way past this idea over the years. We can say without a doubt that many people that we offer this type of roofing option to, are very surprised when they see all of the different designs that we can create for them. You get great designs, and maximum durability, what’s not to like?
Is The Cost Worth It?
One of the things that is going to make some folks shy away from getting these types of roofs built is the cost of steel roofs. They are most likely going to be the most expensive types of roofs out there. They are also roofs that are not going to give you any type of trouble for years. We are going to talk about the durability situation a little more here coming up. What we can say though is that you are getting true durability to the point where you are not going to have to worry about the roof at all for many years.
Roofing manufacturers are going to give you a warranty for 20 years on their roofing surfaces. Can you really expect asphalt shingles to last for 20 years without you having to make any type of adjustments? To be honest, that’s just not going to be the case. If you find a roofing company that promises they can make asphalt shingles last for 20 years without any adjustments it’s because they know they won’t answer your call in 4 or 5 years. Steel roofs can hold up with minimal adjustments for around 20 years without a doubt.
Building The Right Frame
If you looked at our shingle roofs page you know that one of the benefits that we pointed to with those types of roofs is their lightweight. Naturally, steel roofs are not going to be that lightweight at all. What we need to do then is make sure that we build a frame that can hold up the metal sheets that we are going to be putting on top of it. Does this require more work, than what maybe some other surfaces could require? That could be the case, but these surfaces are going to last twice as long.
We mentioned that you don’t have to limit yourself to adding a simple sheet of metal and calling that a steel roof. Steel roofs can be made to look like tile roofs and have all sorts of different patterns made on them. This means that you can have a very durable roof added to your home and have it look like another type of roof. You could be getting the best of both worlds in this scenario without a doubt.
